Erlan Ospanov, Director General of Verny Capital Group of Companies, shared his vision on the development of resort-hotels in Kazakhstan in an interview for Kursiv newspaper.
According to Ospanov, it takes at least 5-10 hotels in one resort area to have a critical mass. "On one hand, we need this critical mass for the market, to meet a passive demand. On the other hand, it allows for creating new jobs for workers, food suppliers, and other companies that provide recreational and other services (renting scooters, parachutes, etc.). All this might be costly for just one hotel, but when there's an entire cluster, then it's a solid resort area," - Ospanov said.
According to Erlan Ospanov, more than $100 million has been invested in the construction of Rixos Borovoe and the infrastructure development. Investments have not yet paid off, and it is hard to say whether they will pay off in 15 years - the pandemic has made serious adjustments to the plans. Nevertheless, they see an increase in local demand because of closed borders.
"We have higher occupancy rates because of the increase in demand for domestic tourism. The hotel is almost 100% full, which exceeds last year's indicators ", - said Erlan Ospanov.
